Chaul
Chaul is a former port town on the Konkan coast in Raigad district, Maharashtra, India, south of Mumbai. An important harbour for Arab and Persian trade from early medieval times, it was the site of a sea battle in 1508 in which an Egyptian and Gujarati fleet defeated the Portuguese. The Portuguese later built a fortress there and held it until 1740.
