Chaulukya dynasty

c. 940–1244 · 10th century · Also known as Solanki dynasty, Chaulukyas of Gujarat

The Chaulukya dynasty, also called the Solankis, ruled Gujarat from Anahilapataka (Patan) from about 940 to 1244. Under kings such as Bhima I, Jayasimha Siddharaja and Kumarapala it controlled much of western India and patronised Jain and Hindu temples, including the sun temple at Modhera. Its feudatories included the Chahamanas of Jalor, and its power passed to the Vaghelas, a collateral branch.
