Rector of Ragusa
The Rector of Ragusa was the nominal head of state of the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik) from 1358 to 1808. Chosen from the patrician Great Council, he served for a single month and could not be re-elected for two years, living in the Rector's Palace and leaving it only on state business. The short term was designed to prevent any one noble from gaining personal power.
