Renewed Land Ordinance

1627–1628 · 17th century · Also known as Verneuerte Landesordnung

The Renewed Land Ordinance was the constitution imposed by Ferdinand II on Bohemia in 1627 and on Moravia in 1628 after the defeat of the Bohemian Revolt. It made the crown hereditary in the Habsburg line, allowed only Catholicism, gave German equal standing with Czech and gave the king the initiative in legislation, reducing the estates' power. It remained the basis of government in the Bohemian lands until 1848.
