Rio Grande
The Rio Grande is a river that rises in Colorado and flows south through New Mexico, then forms the border between Texas and Mexico to the Gulf of Mexico. Its upper valley was the heart of Pueblo country and of Spanish New Mexico. After Texan independence the lands north of its lower course were disputed with Mexico until 1848.
