Robert of Rhuddlan

d. 1093 · 11th century

Robert of Rhuddlan was a Norman knight, cousin and lieutenant of Hugh d'Avranches, Earl of Chester. From his castle at Rhuddlan he conquered much of the north Welsh coast and claimed rule over Gwynedd, after he and Hugh captured its king, Gruffudd ap Cynan. He was killed by Welsh raiders near the Great Orme, probably in 1093.
