Roman–Persian Wars
The Roman–Persian Wars were a long series of conflicts between the Roman (later Byzantine) state and the Parthian and then Sasanian empires of Iran, lasting from 54 BCE to 628 CE. Fought mostly over Armenia, upper Mesopotamia and the Syrian frontier, they seldom moved the border far for long. The last war, of 602–628, exhausted both powers shortly before the Arab conquests.
