Romanos IV Diogenes

Romanos IV Diogenes was a Byzantine emperor who reigned from 1068 to 1071. He led a major campaign against the Seljuk Turks and was defeated and captured by Sultan Alp Arslan at the Battle of Manzikert in 1071. The Byzantine Empire and Seljuk Empire profiles treat the defeat as a turning point that opened Anatolia to Turkish settlement.
