Saadi dynasty
The Saadi dynasty was a family of Arab sharifs who ruled Morocco from the sixteenth to the mid-seventeenth century. Under Sultan Abd al-Malik its forces defeated a Portuguese invasion at the Battle of Alcácer Quibir in 1578, in which King Sebastian of Portugal was killed. Accounts of the Portuguese Empire treat the defeat as a disaster that contributed to the Portuguese succession crisis.
