Saffarid dynasty

Also known as Saffarids

The Saffarid dynasty was a Persian dynasty founded in Sistan in eastern Iran in the ninth century by Yaqub ibn al-Layth, a former coppersmith. It conquered much of eastern Iran and challenged the authority of the Abbasid Caliphate, even marching towards Baghdad. Accounts of the Abbasid Caliphate list the Saffarids among the regional powers that emerged as caliphal military control weakened.
