Saint Helier
Saint Helier is the capital and largest town of Jersey, on St Aubin's Bay on the island's south coast. It is named after Helier, a sixth-century hermit venerated as the island's patron saint. The seat of the States of Jersey and the Royal Court, it was the scene of the Battle of Jersey in 1781 and grew in the nineteenth century with trade, tourism and English settlers.
