Saint-Valery-sur-Somme

Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is a small port on the estuary of the Somme in Picardy, northern France. In late September 1066 Duke William of Normandy's invasion fleet sailed from there, after waiting weeks for a favourable wind, and landed at Pevensey in England, leading to the Battle of Hastings.
