Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines
Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines is a town in a valley of the Vosges in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, north-eastern France. In the sixteenth century its silver mines were among the richest in Europe, and the valley was divided between the dukes of Lorraine and the lords of Ribeaupierre. The town later became a centre of textile manufacture and is known for its international mineral fair.
