Saito Dosan

1494–1556 · 16th century · Also known as Saitō Dōsan

Saito Dosan was a Japanese warlord of the Sengoku period who seized control of Mino province from the Toki family, earning the nickname 'viper of Mino'. Later legend made him a former oil merchant, though modern historians think his father began the family's rise. He married his daughter to Oda Nobunaga, and was killed in 1556 fighting his son Saito Yoshitatsu.
