Salamis, Cyprus
Salamis was an ancient city on the east coast of Cyprus, north of modern Famagusta, founded in the 11th century BCE as successor to Enkomi. Its kings were often the strongest on the island, notably Evagoras I in the 4th century BCE. As Constantia it was the metropolitan see of Cyprus in Late Antiquity, and it was abandoned after Arab raids in the 7th century; extensive ruins survive.
