Savoie

Savoie is a department of south-eastern France in the Alps, with its prefecture at Chambéry, the old capital of the counts of Savoy. Together with Haute-Savoie it was formed from the historic Duchy of Savoy, which the Kingdom of Sardinia ceded to France by the Treaty of Turin in 1860 in return for French support for Italian unification. It belongs to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
