Sayf al-Din Suleyman Bey

d. 1302 · 13th century

Sayf al-Din Suleyman Bey was the founder of the Eshrefid beylik in central Anatolia, a descendant of the Turkmen commander Eshref. As Seljuk power waned in the 1280s he made Beysehir, on the lake of the same name, the centre of his principality. He built the Eshrefoglu Mosque there, a celebrated wooden-columned mosque now on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
