Akşehir

Also known as Philomelium

Akşehir is a town in Konya Province in central Turkey, at the foot of the Sultan Mountains, ancient Philomelium. Under the Seljuks and the Anatolian beyliks it was an important stop on the road between Konya and western Anatolia, and it passed to the Ottomans in the 14th century. The Ottoman sultan Bayezid I died there in Timur's captivity in 1403, and it holds the tomb of Nasreddin Hodja.
