Sbeitla

Also known as Sufetula

Sbeitla is a town in central Tunisia, beside the ruins of Roman Sufetula. The ancient city flourished in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and its forum has three well-preserved temples, probably dedicated to the Capitoline triad. In the 7th century it was the seat of the Byzantine exarch Gregory, who was defeated nearby by an Arab army in 647.
