Second Battle of El Alamein
The Second Battle of El Alamein was fought in Egypt in 1942 between British Commonwealth forces under Bernard Montgomery and the German-Italian army under Erwin Rommel. The Allied victory forced the Axis armies into a long retreat across North Africa. Accounts of the Italian Empire treat it as a turning point leading to the loss of Italy's African colonies.
