Sekgoma I
Sekgoma I was chief of the Bangwato, a Tswana people of present-day central Botswana, for most of the period from the 1830s until 1875. Ruling from Shoshong, he rebuilt the chiefdom after the wars of the 1820s, absorbed refugees and subject groups and made it a trading centre on the road to the north. He clashed with his Christian son Khama III, who displaced him in 1875.
