Senekerim-Hovhannes Artsruni
Senekerim-Hovhannes Artsruni was the last king of Vaspurakan, the Armenian kingdom around Lake Van, ruling from 1003. Under pressure from Turkic raids, he ceded his kingdom to the Byzantine emperor Basil II in 1021 in exchange for estates around Sebasteia, the present-day Sivas, in central Anatolia. Thousands of his subjects followed him west, part of the Armenian movement into Cappadocia and Cilicia that preceded the Seljuk conquests.
