Sextus Pompey

c. 67–35 BCE · 1st century BCE · Also known as Sextus Pompeius Magnus Pius

Sextus Pompey was a Roman general, the younger son of Pompey the Great. After the murder of Julius Caesar he built a naval power based in Sicily, sheltering opponents of the triumvirs and cutting off Rome's grain supply. Octavian's admiral Agrippa defeated him at Naulochus in 36 BCE, and he was executed in Asia Minor in 35 BCE.
