Shahrizor
Shahrizor is a fertile plain in the Kurdistan Region of north-eastern Iraq, east of Sulaymaniyah in the foothills of the Zagros. In the Middle Ages it was a prosperous district with a town of the same name, contested by Kurdish dynasties, and under the Ottomans it gave its name to the Eyalet of Shahrizor. Its many ancient mounds attest settlement since the Neolithic.
