Sinjar Mountains
The Sinjar Mountains are a ridge rising from the plain of northern Iraq, west of Mosul, near the Syrian border. In the early second millennium BCE the plains around it were home to small kingdoms such as Andarig and Karana, known from the Mari letters and the archives of Tell al-Rimah. The mountain is today the homeland of the Yazidi community.
