Six-Day War

1967 · 20th century · Also known as June War, Third Arab–Israeli War

The Six-Day War was the war of 5-10 June 1967 in which Israel, striking first after weeks of crisis, defeated Egypt, Jordan and Syria and captured the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza, the West Bank with East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. Fought in less than a week, it tripled the territory under Israeli control, began the occupation that has defined the conflict ever since, and reshaped politics across the Middle East.
