Somali Region
The Somali Region is the easternmost regional state of Ethiopia, inhabited mainly by ethnic Somalis and bordering Somalia, Djibouti and Kenya. Its capital is Jijiga. A largely arid lowland crossed by the Shebelle river, it includes the historic Ogaden and has long been home to pastoral clans; it was the main theatre of the Ogaden War between Ethiopia and Somalia in 1977–1978.
