Song Jiaoren

1882–1913 · 20th century

Song Jiaoren was a Chinese revolutionary and a founder of the Kuomintang, which he led to victory in China's first national parliamentary elections in 1912–1913. He championed a cabinet system that would limit presidential power. He was shot at Shanghai railway station in March 1913, an assassination widely blamed on President Yuan Shikai, which led to the failed 'Second Revolution'.
