Stari Grad
Stari Grad is a town on the Croatian island of Hvar. It was founded in 384 BCE as Pharos by Greek colonists from the island of Paros, who defeated the local Illyrians with help from Syracuse. Pharos became a centre of Greek life in the Adriatic and was later ruled by Demetrius of Pharos. The surrounding Stari Grad Plain, whose ancient Greek field divisions survive, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
