Svantevit

Also known as Svetovid, Sventovit

Svantevit was a god of the Baltic Slavs, worshipped above all by the Rani at the temple fortress of Arkona on Rügen. Saxo Grammaticus describes his huge wooden statue with four heads holding a drinking horn, a sacred white horse kept for divination, and tribute sent from other Slavic lands. The Danes destroyed the image in 1168. He is usually linked with war, plenty and prophecy.
