Syloson

6th century BCE · 6th century BCE

Syloson was a brother of Polycrates, tyrant of Samos, who banished him. In exile in Egypt, according to Herodotus, he gave his cloak to the young Darius, who as king repaid the gift by sending Otanes to conquer Samos and install Syloson as tyrant around 517 BCE. His son Aeaces later ruled Samos as a Persian client.
