Taksony

fl. c. 950–970 · 10th century

Taksony was Grand Prince of the Hungarians from about 955 to about 970, the period after the defeat at the Lechfeld that ended the Magyar raids on western Europe. A grandson of Árpád, he is said to have settled Pecheneg and Muslim groups in Hungary and asked the papacy for a bishop. His son Géza succeeded him and began the conversion of the Hungarians.
