Tale of the Eloquent Peasant
The Tale of the Eloquent Peasant is an ancient Egyptian literary work of the Middle Kingdom. It tells of a peasant robbed of his goods by an official's servant, who appeals for justice in nine eloquent petitions, recorded at the king's wish before justice is finally done. It is a classic statement of the Egyptian ideal of maat, justice and right order.
