Tampico
Tampico is a port city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, near the mouth of the Pánuco River on the Gulf of Mexico. Refounded in 1823, it was the scene in 1829 of Santa Anna's defeat of the Spanish expedition under Isidro Barradas, the last Spanish attempt to reconquer Mexico. In the early 20th century it became the centre of Mexico's oil boom.
