Tanuf
Tanuf is a village in the interior of Oman, at the foot of the Jebel Akhdar near Nizwa. In 1913 Ibadi scholars and tribal leaders elected Salim ibn Rashid al-Kharusi as imam there, reviving the Imamate of Oman. The old village was destroyed by British air attacks during the Jebel Akhdar War of the 1950s, and its ruins still stand beside the modern settlement.
