Teatro all'Antica

1588–1590 · 16th century · Also known as Teatro Olimpico of Sabbioneta

The Teatro all'Antica is a theatre in Sabbioneta, in Lombardy, designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi for Duke Vespasiano Gonzaga and built in 1588–1590. Inspired by ancient theatres and by Palladio's Teatro Olimpico, it was one of the first free-standing buildings in modern Europe erected specifically as a theatre. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mantua and Sabbioneta.
