Thopia family
The Thopia were an Albanian noble family of central Albania in the late Middle Ages. Its best-known member, Karl Thopia, took Durrës from the Angevins in 1368 and ruled as Prince of Albania until 1388. His son Gjergj handed Durrës to Venice in 1392, after which the family's lands fell under Ottoman control, though members of the family later joined Skanderbeg's League of Lezhë.
