Ticino River
The Ticino is a river that rises in the Swiss Alps, flows through the canton of Ticino and Lake Maggiore, and then runs south through Lombardy to join the Po just below Pavia. Its lower course formed a frontier between Lombardy and Piedmont, and in 218 BCE Hannibal defeated the Romans in a cavalry battle near its banks.
