Treaty of Deogaon

1803 · 19th century · Part of the Second Anglo-Maratha War

The Treaty of Deogaon was signed on 17 December 1803 between the British East India Company and Raghuji II Bhonsle of Nagpur after his defeats at Assaye and Argaon in the Second Anglo-Maratha War. Raghuji ceded Cuttack and the coast of Orissa and his lands in western Berar, and accepted a British Resident at Nagpur. The settlement ended the Bhonsles' standing as a major independent Maratha power.
