Treaty of Zuhab

1639 · 17th century · Part of the Ottoman–Safavid War (1623–1639)

The Treaty of Zuhab was the peace agreement of 1639 between the Safavid Empire and the Ottoman Empire. It ended a long series of wars and left Iraq and Baghdad in Ottoman hands. Accounts of the Safavid Empire note its lasting impact, since the frontier it established approximates the modern border between Iran and Iraq.
