Turicum

Turicum was the Roman settlement on the site of modern Zürich, at the outflow of the Limmat from Lake Zurich. It held a customs station collecting the duty on goods passing between Gaul and Raetia. In the late Roman period a fort stood on the Lindenhof hill, which remained the centre of the early medieval town.
