Tuxtla Mountains
The Tuxtla Mountains, or Sierra de los Tuxtlas, are a volcanic range on the Gulf of Mexico coast in southern Veracruz, Mexico. Their basalt was quarried by the Olmecs and hauled to San Lorenzo and other centres to carve colossal heads, table-thrones and other monuments. Tres Zapotes grew on their western edge and remained a regional centre long after the wider Olmec decline.
