Tyrol Castle

Tyrol Castle stands above Merano in South Tyrol, Italy, and was built in the early 12th century. As the seat of the counts of Tyrol it gave its name to the county and to the whole region. Its Romanesque portals are richly carved, and it now houses the South Tyrolean museum of history.
