Tyrol

Tyrol is a historical region in the eastern Alps, centred on the valleys of the Inn, Adige and Eisack and the Brenner Pass. A Habsburg land from 1363, it was ceded to Bavaria by the Peace of Pressburg in 1805, provoking Andreas Hofer's rising of 1809, and was returned to Austria in 1814. After the First World War it was divided between Austria and Italy.
