Albert IV, Count of Tyrol

d. 1253 · 13th century

Albert IV was the last Count of Tyrol of the original line, named after Tyrol Castle near Merano. As advocate of the bishoprics of Trent and Brixen he greatly extended his power in the Adige and Inn valleys. Having no sons, he left his lands on his death in 1253 to his sons-in-law, among them Meinhard of Gorizia, whose son Meinhard II built a unified Tyrol.
