Uesugi Noritada

1433–1455 · 15th century

Uesugi Noritada was the Kantō deputy, or kanrei, the chief adviser of the Kamakura kubo in eastern Japan, from the late 1440s. The son of Uesugi Norizane, who had helped destroy the previous kubo Ashikaga Mochiuji, he was distrusted by Mochiuji's son Shigeuji. At the end of 1454 Shigeuji had him murdered, starting the Kyōtoku War between the kubo and the Uesugi.
