Ulster Covenant

1912 · 20th century

The Ulster Covenant was a pledge signed by nearly half a million Unionist men and women on and after 28 September 1912, Ulster Day, to resist the Third Home Rule Bill by all means necessary. Organised by Edward Carson and James Craig, it was followed in January 1913 by the formation of the Ulster Volunteer Force to back the threat with arms.
