Ulrich, Duke of Württemberg

1487–1550 · 16th century

Ulrich, Duke of Württemberg, ruled from 1498 to 1550. His heavy taxes provoked the Poor Conrad revolt of 1514, and after he seized the imperial city of Reutlingen in 1519 the Swabian League drove him out, leaving the duchy under Habsburg rule. Restored in 1534 with the help of Philip of Hesse, he introduced the Lutheran Reformation.
