United States Navy
The United States Navy is the naval service of the United States, founded as the Continental Navy in 1775 and re-established under the Naval Act of 1794. In the 19th century its African Squadron patrolled the West African coast to suppress the Atlantic slave trade, and Africans freed from captured slave ships were landed in Liberia. It later became the world's largest navy and was decisive in the Pacific in the Second World War.
