Uqair Protocol

1922 · 20th century · Also known as Uqair Convention

The Uqair Protocol of 1922 set the borders between the Sultanate of Nejd under Ibn Saud and the British-protected Kuwait and mandated Iraq. Imposed at a conference at the port of Uqair by the British high commissioner Sir Percy Cox, it gave Nejd about two-thirds of the land claimed by Kuwait. It also created two neutral zones, shared by Nejd with Kuwait and with Iraq.
